CARRIER INTRODUCES
HIGH EFFICIENCY PRODUCT LINE Carrier Dealers Offer
a Full Line of Energy-Efficient HVAC: INDIANAPOLIS, March 4 - Carrier Corporation, the world's leading manufacturer of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, today announced the introduction of the world's first product line of high efficiency air-conditioning and heat pump systems to use the chlorine-free, environmentally sound refrigerant Puron . Puron is Carrier's brand name for the refrigerant R-41 OA, which is recognized by the HVAC industry as the leading replacement for the ozone-depleting refrigerant R-22 in the next generation of residential cooling and heating systems. In April 1996, Carrier introduced a single air-conditioning unit with the new refrigerant - the 13.0-SEER WeatherMaker 38TXA - which has proven successful in the marketplace and popular with homeowners. Carrier dealers now offer an entire product line of high efficiency Puron based air conditioning units, including 12.0-, 13.0- and 14.0-SEER WeatherMaker models with Puron. When matched with appropriate indoor equipment, the 14.0-SEER unit can achieve up to 15.5-SEER. A 13.0-SEER heat pump also is available, and can achieve an efficiency rating of up to 14.5-SEER. The heat pump provides up to 8.5-HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). "Homeowners are receptive to affordable HVAC products that offer high efficiency and environmental responsibility," said Frank Hartman, vice president and general manager of residential and light commercial products, Carrier. "This environmentally sound, energy-efficient equipment represents the future of the HVAC market, and serves as an ideal way for Carrier dealers to differentiate themselves right now." As the industry continues to widely accept this technology, other HVAC manufacturers soon will follow Carrier's lead. Puron quickly is becoming the global refrigerant of choice to replace R-22-based equipment, which cannot be manufactured beginning in 2010. In fact, the top eight Japan-based HVAC manufacturers will introduce systems using this refrigerant in 1998, and current projections indicate all Japanese residential units will be converted to the new refrigerant in approximately five years. Also, Allied Signal has licensed this technology to other refrigerant manufacturers, making R-410A readily available in the marketplace. In little more than a decade, HVAC manufacturers in the United States will be banned from producing units with R-22 because of its ozone-depleting potential. Leading up to that time, however, homeowners may encounter gradually rising service costs of R-22 units due to government regulations that restrict the future supply and production of the refrigerant. "Carrier is offering WeatherMaker units with Puron now so the customer can enjoy peace-of-mind knowing they are not contributing to the destruction of the ozone layer, while eliminating the potential of facing high service costs in the future with an R-22 unit," Hartman said. The WeatherMaker family is the quietest product line on the market, with sound levels as low as 69dBA, the equivalent of most refrigerators. The units feature highly durable components that enhance reliability. In fact, Carrier's WeatherMaker 38TXA is documented as the most service free air conditioner in Carrier's product line. The units also are designed to be easy to install and service. WeatherMaker units with Puron meet the manufacturing, energy efficiency, sound levels and packaging criteria for Green Seal, a national, nonprofit environmental labeling organization, as well as Energy Star Residential Program guidelines for energy-efficient performance set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
